2 Children Die In Yesterdays Tornado Outbreak

Two children died on Saturday during tornados that rolled through Angelina County.

The children, ages 8 and 3, were in the backseat of a car as it drove down Dewitt Hinson Road in Pollok, Angelina County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Alton Lenderman said. A pine tree fell on the back of the car during the storm, Lenderman said. The children were pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

“We had to call the fire department to cut them out,” Lenderman said. “Both were pronounced at the scene, when the JP came out. There was no medical transport.

“The tree flattened the car like a pancake,” according to Lenderman.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Billy Ball performed the inquest.

Both parents were in the car at the time of the accident. They were able to get out with no injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
