Barricaded Subject Taken Into Custody After Standoff On Highway 34

On September 14th, 2019 at approximately 6:00 p.m. the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 2100 N. State Hwy 34 in regards to disturbance in progress. The initial call indicated that a female had been assaulted and the suspect was making threats of killing her.

The suspect, Bryan Lomeli a 27 year old male from Greenville, Texas fled the scene in a white Dodge Durango. Responding Deputy’s observed the vehicle with the suspect still inside on the side of SH 34 a short distance from where the offense occurred. Mr. Lomeli refused to exit the vehicle making threats of harming himself and it was determined during the standoff that he was armed with a knife and an unknown caliber firearm. Deputy’s repeatedly attempted to negotiate with Mr. Lomeli to surrender but it became apparent that he was becoming more agitated and hostile at which point a less than lethal weapon was utilized to gain compliance. Mr. Lomeli was transported by AMR for medical evaluation and subsequently booked into the Hunt County Detention Center on multiple charges.

Mr. Lomeli is also considered a suspect in a separate aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case that occurred earlier on the same date.

Sheriff Meeks stated: “I am grateful that this situation was able to resolved without a loss of life and I commend the Deputy’s for making sure that Mr. Lomeli did not harm anyone else and that we were able to prevent him from harming himself”.
