
Late Thursday night just before midnight Commerce Police respond to a shooting.
Thursday Just before midnight, Commerce Police Department received a call about a subject being shot off Sunrise Street. Officers responded to the scene to find a 25 year old female subject suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Hunt County EMS and Commerce Fire were dispatched to the scene but were requested to stage until Commerce Police Department was able to clear the scene. Minutes after the police department made the scene, units quickly cleared the scene for Fire & EMS.
Upon Commerce Fire arriving on scene, per scanner traffic, they updated the incoming Hunt County EMS units that they would have a female victim that had been shot in the abdomen, and there was no exit wound. The female patient was alert and breathing upon the fire department’s arrival. Hunt County EMS quickly put a helicopter on standby.
Hunt County EMS made scene loading the patient, and requested dispatch to launch the helicopter. Commerce Fire set up a landing zone behind Whitley Hall. The patient was transported to the landing zone and was eventually transported to a Dallas area hospital in stable condition.
Commerce Police Department was still investigating this shooting Friday morning. Witnesses stated the shooting suspects involved fled the scene after the shooting occurred. No suspect information has been released at this time.
Sunrise Street is on the Northside of town and runs off of Martin Luther King Dr.
Commerce PD has stated they believe there is no threat to the public.
