Tyrone Jamaal Williams was sentenced to death by lethal injection by a Hunt County Jury in the 2016 Hunt County Double Murder.
In June 2016 the Commerce Police Department responded to a home on Highway 50 near the Commerce Airport for reports of a disturbance. Once making the scene, the officers entered the home finding a mother and daughter deceased from violence.
Officers quickly learned of a possible suspect, Tyrone Williams, as his vehicle was located a few miles from the murder scene, parked on the shoulder of the road. Wiliams was the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims.
A large manhunt took place with assistance from local and state agencies. Tracking dogs were brought in from the nearby prison, along with a DPS Search Helicopter, units were unable to locate Williams.
Just after dark, the Commerce Police Department received a call from a reporter with the local news page (Hunt County Theft Reports). “Me and the wife were sitting at the Commerce Braums parking lot trying to gather our thoughts after what was a crazy day” stated Chris, who runs the local scanner page. Chris said it is a day he will never forget, “I saw a subject coming down the railroad track overpass bridge making their way onto Highway 24, I and the wife drove down to the edge of the road where Willimas walked directly in front of our car.” Chris called the Commerce Police Department where officers picked the subject up on Highway 24 near Live Oak Street.
The possible suspect was transported to the Commerce Wal-Mart parking lot where he was questioned further. Reports state Williams initially lied about his name, officers eventually figured out it was the guy they were looking for. Williams was taken into custody and charged with CAPITAL MURDER OF MULTIPLE PERSONS.
A Hunt County Jury handed down Death By Lethal Injection this week. We pray this can bring peace to the family who has been hurting since that June day.
