31-year-old Mary Rosborough, of South Carolina, allegedly shot and killed her 6-year-old son, Jason Wise, with a deer rifle on Thanksgiving. They had just gotten back home after deer hunting.
Rosborough attempted to reload the weapon after shooting the child. However, her brother stopped her. When he heard the gunfire, he had dashed into the room, tackled and kept her from shooting the gun again.
The child’s grandparents transported him to the hospital. Jason later died from his chest wound.
Fairfield County officials say that the brother kept Rosborough on the ground until they could arrive on the scene.
Noted in the incident report was Rosborough stating that “she wanted to send the victim to Heaven.”
It also documented that the woman has a drug addiction. “But there were no indicators of any behavioral change that would lead anyone to think that the offender would shoot her son.”
Rosborough faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. She remans in jail without bond.
