Several North Texas students were arrested and charged with terroristic threats against schools

Lewisville Police Department has arrested three juvenile students for terroristic threats made against Lewisville ISD school campuses last week.

One juvenile is charged with four counts of misdemeanor terroristic threat. Two juveniles are each charged with one count of felony terroristic threats. Since the suspects are juveniles, their names and faces will not be released.

None of these threats was ever deemed credible and no students or LISD staff were ever in any danger.

All three juveniles are LISD students and Lewisville residents.

The one juvenile facing the four misdemeanor charges created and spread the original terroristic threats using the Snapchat app. Under Texas Penal Code 22.07, (a) a person commits the offense if he/she threatens to commit any offense involving violence to any person or property with intent to: (2) place any person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

An offense under subsection (a)(2) is a Class B misdemeanor which carries a punishment of: (1) a fine not to exceed $2,000; (2) confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days; or (3) both such fines and confinement.

The two juveniles facing the felony charge knew those threats were false but continued to spread them using the Snapchat app. Under Texas Penal Code 22.07, (a) a person commits the offense if he/she threatens to commit any offense involving violence to any person or property with intent to: (5) place the public or a substantial group of the public in fear of serious bodily injury.

An offense under subsection (a)(5) is a felony of the third degree which carries a punishment of a prison sentence of 2-10 years, and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Lewisville ISD was instrumental in the initial investigation of these threats. The district will look at further punishment options to decide if the students will go to alternative school at Lewisville Center for Student Success, or at the Juvenile Justice Alternative Placement Center in Denton. Any questions about how LISD will handle these cases should be directed to LISD.

Lewisville PD conducted the arrests and immediately took all three suspects to Denton County. Any questions about further legal action regarding these three juveniles should be directed to the Denton County District Attorney – Juvenile Division.

Rockwall Police say they arrested a juvenile male student who make a threat against Rockwall High School. The threats involved texting of photos of simulated firearms and threats of shooting at the school. The student, who was not at class today, was identified and arrested at his house. He now faces a Terroristic Threat felony charge.
