Major Overnight Accident On Interstate 30 In Hopkins County Claims The Life Of One

Hopkins County Fire & EMS along with the Texas Department Of Public Safety responded to the area of Interstate 30, seven miles east of Sulphur Springs. Approximately one-quarter of a mile west of US 67 Wednesday night for reports of a major MVA involving several 18 wheelers.

Preliminary investigation suggest Fadi Kathawa, 29, of Sterling Heights, MI was traveling Eastbound on Interstate 30 in a 2016 Freightliner pulling a trailer when for an as yet undetermined reason, left the roadway and struck the guardrail, rolling over on its side. Reports state another 18 wheeler, also traveling Eastbound approached the wreck striking the already rolled over 18 wheeler.

Fadi Kathawa (the driver of the rolled over truck) was ejected from the vehicle and passed away from his injuries. The driver of the second truck (Lester Brown, 33, Las Vegas NV. ) was treated and released from the local hospital.

The Interstate was shutdown in this area most of Thursday while crews cleaned up the wreckage.

The crash remains under investigation. No additional information is currently available.
