The Texas Department of Public Safety was notified of a reckless driver Friday afternoon. Caller stated White Chevrolet Silverado was traveling I-30 Eastbound failing to maintain a single lane.
Trooper Cook was on patrol on Interstate 30, near mile marker 97, in the Hunt County area. Cook was able to eventually catch up to the reckless driver, near the 120 mile marker in Hopkins County. The DPS communication Officer still had the caller on the phone. The caller stated the Chevrolet Truck couldn’t stay between the Mayo and the Mustard, almost hitting several other vehicles.
A traffic stop was conducted after Cook noticed the vehicle was failing to maintain a single lane.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified from booking reports as Ramon Morales of Richardson, Trooper Cook explained to the driver that he was pulled over due to his driving. When asked if he had been drinking, Morales admitted to drinking a 24oz Budweiser beer at the Buc-cee’s in Royse City, approx. 30-45 minutes prior to being pulled over.
A standardized Field Sobriety was administrated with all signs showing that Morales was intoxicated, the suspect was then taken into custody.
After transporting Morales to the Hopkins County Detention Center, he was read the DIC-24, where he consented to provide a breath specimen at the jail.
Morales gave a breath sample approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes after the initial stop. The 2 valid breath specimens came back (0.085, 0.087).
Ramon Morales was booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center on charges of:
- Driving While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense.
As of Sunday morning, Morales remained booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
