Tennessee Sheriff’s Deputy Dies after Suffering Medical Emergency

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy Shannon “Shane” Lang felt ill after removing heavy tree limbs from a road in New Hope, and he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest the next day.

A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy died after suffering a heart attack after clearing away road debris last month.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy Shannon “Shane” Lang, 48, had only been with the agency for a few months when he suffered a fatal medical emergency, the sheriff’s department stated in a social media post. He had been removing heavy tree branches from a road in New Hope on Sept. 16 when he felt ill, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Lang felt worse the next day while responding to a call and went to the hospital. That’s when he went into cardiac arrest and later passed away.

“Shane was a genuine guy that liked everyone (and) was a true joy to work with,” the sheriff’s department stated. “He will be greatly missed.”

Lang started his law enforcement career as a corrections officer in 2000, according to the department. He became a Sequatchie County sheriff’s deputy in 2014. He is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters and eight grandchildren.
