Authorities have confirmed that Kaitlin Armstrong, a murder suspect from Texas who is currently in jail for the shooting death of a professional cyclist last year, briefly escaped custody during a doctor’s appointment outside the facility. A video has surfaced showing her attempting to make a desperate run for freedom.

According to Kristen Dark, a public information officer from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, two correctional officers were accompanying Armstrong to a correctional vehicle after her medical appointment when she suddenly took off.

“She managed to cover approximately one block and a half. Our corrections officers maintained constant visual contact with her and successfully apprehended and subdued her,” Dark stated.

A video, obtained by the local station KXAN, depicts an individual being pursued in a state of frenzy near a parking lot. Dark affirmed that the footage “indeed shows her running,” referring to Armstrong, who has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charges against Anna “Mo” Wilson.

Armstrong’s legal representatives informed HuffPost on Thursday that they were unable to provide any comments regarding the situation due to a court-imposed communication restriction.

In the video, a person dressed in a striped black-and-white outfit is seen running towards a wall and trying to climb over it while being pursued by a correctional officer who stumbles behind.

Dark mentioned that she is unable to provide any comments regarding how officers restrain individuals during transportation. She mentioned that this process varies depending on the person and can also be influenced by their medical condition.

Following the incident, Armstrong and the two correctional officers were taken to a local hospital for examination. It was reported that they sustained minor injuries. Dark further stated that Armstrong was subsequently returned to the county’s jail facility. However, she did not provide any information about whether Armstrong has been involved in any other escape attempts since her arrest.

The 35-year-old is facing several charges in the death of Wilson in Austin, Texas, last year.

Wilson had recently returned from spending time with Armstrong’s former romantic partner, Colin Strickland, who, similar to Wilson, is a professional cyclist. Wilson was found with multiple gunshot wounds at an apartment where she had been residing, as stated by law enforcement officials.

Armstrong was subjected to questioning by authorities regarding Wilson’s death due to her vehicle allegedly being captured on camera at the crime scene and around the time of the shooting. Subsequently, Armstrong purportedly sold her vehicle and fled to Costa Rica, leading to a seven-week-long manhunt that concluded with her arrest on June 29 of the preceding year.

Dark mentioned that Armstrong is anticipated to face additional charges subsequent to her alleged escape attempt this week. However, Dark refrained from providing any details regarding the nature of those charges.

According to records available online, Armstrong’s trial is set to commence later this month.
