In a startling turn of events, what began as a traffic accident on I-30 Eastbound near the old Mary Puddin Hill building quickly escalated into a series of alleged criminal acts.
18-year-old Camryn Berry of Caddo Mills, Texas, found himself in hot water after his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler, sending it sliding off the interstate. But that was just the beginning of his troubles.
As Texas DPS officers responded to the scene, they suspected Berry of driving while intoxicated. During a routine trip to Hunt County Regional for a blood draw, Berry allegedly decided to make a run for it, leading officers on a foot chase through the area.
In a scene straight out of a crime drama, multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces to track down the fleeing teen. Their search ended near a Valero Gas Station, where Berry was discovered hiding in the bushes.
The night’s events resulted in a laundry list of charges for the young man, including:
- Escape from custody
- Two counts of assault on a public servant
- Resisting arrest
- Driving while intoxicated
Berry now faces a total surety bond of $111,500 and remains in custody at the Hunt County Detention Center.
