Delta County, Texas – A major development has emerged in a case that has gripped the community for nearly a year. On March 2, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a harrowing discovery: the body of a deceased male in the Middle Sulphur River near Farm to Market Road 1531. Authorities later identified the individual as 28-year-old Roderick La Tarrince Jackson, a resident of Commerce. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
The discovery came after Mr. Jackson was reported missing to the Greenville Police Department in January 2024, sparking concerns about his fate. Following the identification of his body, a comprehensive investigation ensued, with state and local law enforcement agencies pooling resources to uncover the circumstances of his tragic death.
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, nearly a year after the initial report of Mr. Jackson’s disappearance, investigators made a breakthrough. Dalton Anthony Marcum, a 29-year-old resident of Campbell, was arrested at his workplace on a first-degree felony murder warrant issued in Delta County. Mr. Marcum was booked into the Hunt County Jail, where he is being held on a $750,000 bond pending trial.
The arrest represents a critical step forward in the pursuit of justice for Mr. Jackson and his grieving family. The investigation has been a collaborative effort between the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the Greenville Police Department. These agencies continue to work tirelessly to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office extended its gratitude to the Texas Rangers and the Greenville Police Department for their pivotal support in this complex case. Authorities emphasized their commitment to conducting a fair and impartial investigation and assured the public that updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
This significant development brings hope for closure to a family that has endured months of uncertainty and loss. As the case moves through the judicial process, the community remains watchful for justice to be served.
