Sulphur Springs Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Fugitive

On Friday evening, just before 7:00 PM, Sulphur Springs Cpl. Green conducted a routine traffic stop on a Jeep Compass for a traffic violation. What began as a standard procedure quickly escalated into a significant arrest.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Cpl. Green observed that a passenger, identified as Galen Wright, was not wearing a seatbelt. When asked for his name and date of birth, Wright attempted to provide false information, but his nervousness and mistakes while giving his date of birth raised suspicions.

Using the in-car computer, the officer ran the name provided by Wright but noted that the driver’s license photo associated with the name did not match the individual in the vehicle. Acting on these inconsistencies, Cpl. Green detained Wright in handcuffs for further questioning.

It was during this time that Wright admitted to providing false identification, revealing his real name and confessing that he was aware of an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Sulphur Springs communications confirmed the warrant, and Wright, 23, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, was placed under arrest.

He was transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of:

-Failure to Identify as a Fugitive with Intent to Give False Information
-Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1/1-B >=1G<4G

This incident highlights the diligent efforts of Sulphur Springs law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the community.
