DWI Arrest: Safety Reminder for Our Roads

Texas DPS Trooper stops 2024 Ford F-150 driver for DWI in Hopkins County, showing field sobriety test and law enforcement vehicle.

Early Sunday morning, just before 1:00 AM, Texas DPS Trooper Rodriguez conducted a traffic stop in the area of Houston & Gladys Street, on Alexander Burney, the driver of a 2024 Ford F-150, for speeding. During the stop, Trooper Rodriguez observed signs of possible intoxication, including red, glassy eyes and the odor of alcohol on Burney’s breath.

Burney admitted to consuming two alcoholic beverages before driving. After a series of standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs), Burney was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County jail.

At the jail, Burney voluntarily provided breath samples, which showed results of 0.099 g/210 L and 0.101 g/210 L—above the legal limit of 0.08. Burney was booked on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

Let this serve as a reminder to never drink and drive. Even a small amount of alcohol can impair your ability to drive safely and lead to serious consequences. Always plan for a designated driver, rideshare service, or alternate transportation if you’ve been drinking.

Your safety and the safety of others is worth it. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.
