Hopkins County, Texas On January 16, 2025, Hopkins County authorities arrested Jaime Ramos Bautista, 55, for driving while intoxicated (DWI) after consuming alcohol and refusing a sobriety test. Bautista admitted to drinking multiple beers before driving and now faces enhanced charges due to a prior DWI conviction.
Incident Details
According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a possible collision near the 200 block of Parkins Street. Upon arrival, officers located Jaime Ramos Bautista in a gray 2005 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck. Deputies noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from Bautista.
Bautista admitted to consuming eight beers prior to driving. After failing the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) field sobriety test, he was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County Jail for further investigation.
Refusal of Sobriety Testing
While in custody, Bautista refused to participate in additional standardized field sobriety tests or provide a blood specimen. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant to collect a blood sample, which was taken at a local hospital before Bautista was returned to the jail.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Bautista had a prior conviction for DWI. This enhanced his current charge to a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law.
