Sulphur Springs, TX – Derrick Dwayne Smith, 43, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested on the evening of January 19, 2025, on charges of interference with an emergency request for assistance. The arrest occurred in the 300 block of Mulberry Street following a disturbance at the location.

According to the police report, officers from the Sulphur Springs Police Department (SSPD) responded to a call regarding a disturbance. During the incident, Smith allegedly interfered with the victim’s ability to request emergency assistance by grabbing a cellular device. Police secured Smith in double-locked handcuffs and transported him to Hopkins County Jail.

Smith is charged with interference with emergency request for assistance, a Class A misdemeanor. The arresting officer listed in the report is C. Robinson.
