DPS Investigating Fatal Accident

Erath County, TX – A tragic accident occurred on January 17, 2025, at approximately 3:00 PM on US 281, 0.18 miles north of County Road 719. The accident involved two vehicles and resulted in two fatalities and one injury, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Accident Details

Vehicle 1, a 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe, was traveling north on US 281 when it veered out of its lane and collided with Vehicle 2, a 2021 Cadillac CT5, which was heading south. The road conditions were dry at the time of the incident.

Victims Identified

  • Driver 1: Karen Huey, a 63-year-old female from Lipan, TX, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
  • Driver 2: Jaelen Green, a 21-year-old male from Watauga, TX, was also pronounced deceased at the scene.
  • Passenger: Nicole Doggett, a 22-year-old female from Georgetown, TX, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Investigation

Preliminary investigations indicate that Vehicle 1 failed to drive within a single lane, leading to the collision. Authorities continue to investigate, and further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
