Hopkins County, TX – Jermy Gomez-Tapia, 17, of Sulphur Springs was arrested on January 22, 2025, following a cattle theft investigation. The arrest came after reports of stolen livestock and Gomez Tapia’s subsequent confession regarding unauthorized sales and trades.

Details of the Investigation

According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, the case began when Texas Cattle Rangers investigated reports of 12 stolen cattle. The missing livestock was later located in Delta County. Deputies questioned Gomez Tapia at the Sheriff’s Office, where he admitted to knowingly allowing individuals to take cattle that did not belong to him. The stolen cattle, (Approx. 15) were exchanged for a Ford F250 truck and a horse.

Gomez Tapia further admitted that he had no authorization to sell or trade the cattle. He was subsequently booked on charges of THEFT CTTLE/HRSE/EXOTIC LVSTOCK
