Hopkins County Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

98 Grams Of Meth Discovered During Traffic Stop

Hopkins County, TX — Basil Scott Hammond, 41, was arrested on January 23, 2025, following a traffic stop near North Davis Street and Connally Street in Hopkins County. Law enforcement officers discovered illegal substances during a search of his vehicle.

According to the arresting deputies, Hammond was pulled over for failing to properly yield at a designated stop sign. During the stop, officers noted that Hammond exhibited signs of nervousness, including shaking hands and avoiding eye contact. Upon further investigation, a K-9 unit was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered multiple packages containing THC-infused edibles, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale and packaging materials. The total weight of the methamphetamine, including packaging, was reported as 98 grams.

Hammond was charged with possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. Evidence was documented, photographed, and secured in evidence bags. Law enforcement emphasized that these actions are part of their ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the community.

Basil Scott Hammond remains in custody.
