Sulphur Springs Drug Bust

A joint narcotics investigation task force, including Hopkins County and Hunt County law enforcement, executed a search warrant on Houston Street in Sulphur Springs. The subject of the investigation, 26-year-old Brandon Jon Stowater, was taken into custody following the discovery of multiple controlled substances within his residence and vehicle.

Seizure of Illegal Substances

During the initial search, law enforcement uncovered 26.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine. A further search yielded 0.542 grams of suspected cocaine found in the driver’s side door pocket of Stowater’s vehicle. Additionally, 3.874 grams of suspected heroin was discovered inside the freezer of a split-unit refrigerator within the residence. The freezer, positioned approximately 15 inches from the floor, was within easy reach of the three children residing in the home, compounding the severity of the situation.

Charges and Legal Consequences

As a result of the findings, Brandon Stowater was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin in a drug-free zone. He also faces two counts of abandoning/endangering a child. Stowater was transported to Hopkins County Jail, where he remains in custody with a bond set at $180,000 by Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings.

Statement from Law Enforcement

Sheriff Lewis Tatum praised the dedication and efforts of law enforcement officers involved in the operation:

“I would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of Hopkins County Narcotics Investigator Sgt. Tanner Steward, who, along with Hunt County Narcotics Investigators, completed a lengthy investigation resulting in a warrant being served. The warrant service was carried out by narcotics investigators, with assistance from Hopkins County K9 officer Cpl. Colt Patterson, Hopkins County Investigators, and Hopkins County Patrol Deputies. Their efforts ensured the removal of dangerous substances from our community and helped protect the well-being of children who were at risk.”

Ongoing Investigation

Following the completion of the search, law enforcement officers accurately recorded the weight of the confiscated narcotics and filed the arrest report. Deputies cleared from Hopkins County Jail without further incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage the community to report any suspicious drug-related activity to local law enforcement.
