David Alan Steele Arrested for Public Intoxication
HOPKINS COUNTY, TX – David Alan Steele, a 64-year-old resident of Winnsboro, was arrested on February 7, 2025, for public intoxication outside an automotive center located on Broadway Street in Hopkins County.
According to the arrest affidavit, officers responded to a report of an intoxicated individual at the location. Upon arrival, officers instructed Steele to exit the premises for questioning. Steele denied being under the influence of alcohol; however, a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus sobriety test was conducted. The test indicated six out of six signs of intoxication.
During a subsequent field sobriety test, Steele struggled to maintain balance during the walk-and-turn procedure. He failed to lift one leg for more than three seconds and switched legs multiple times while appearing visibly unsteady. Officers determined Steele was intoxicated to a level that posed a risk to himself and others.
Law enforcement placed Steele under arrest for public intoxication. He was transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked without further incident. Officers reported that Steele did not have friends or family available to retrieve him or his vehicle at the time of the arrest.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office commended officers for their professionalism during the incident, ensuring both public and individual safety.
