W. Walworth Harrison Public Library Receives Library Excellence Award

GREENVILLE, TX – The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville, Texas, has received the prestigious 2024 Achievement of Library Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League.

To successfully receive this award, applicants must demonstrate excellence in ten different categories, including:

  • Services to underserved populations through outreach, special programs, and partnerships.
  • Innovative and effective marketing of library services and programs.
  • Collaboration with community organizations to enhance literacy and education.
  • Expansion of public services through increased funding and additional resources.
  • Digital inclusion efforts such as free internet access and digital literacy training.
  • Support for workforce development and continuing education programs.
  • Cultural, educational, and literacy programs for all age groups.
  • Professional training and development opportunities for library staff.
  • Community-driven services showcasing the library’s impact.

In 2024, only 102 libraries out of the 542 across Texas were honored with this distinction.

The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library was recognized for its outstanding contributions, including programs such as the new Shushbooth, Outdoor Harmony Center, New Public Services Desk, Charging Stations, LITCON, Fantasy Faire, Author Fest, Touch-A-Truck, and the Summer Reading Program.

The award highlights the library’s commitment to enhancing literacy, digital accessibility, and educational programming for the Greenville community.
