Body of Missing Man Larry Murl Smith Recovered, Investigation Ongoing
February 22, 2025 – Franklin County, TX – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, along with multiple law enforcement agencies, located and recovered the deceased body of Larry Murl Smith at the Franklin/Red River County line on Texas Highway 37 near the Sulphur River.
Smith had been reported missing on February 13, 2025, prompting an extensive search operation involving agencies such as the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department, Franklin County Water District Police, Parks and Wildlife K9, DPS Aircraft Division, Texas Highway Patrol, and Texas Rangers.
Investigation and Persons of Interest
Authorities confirmed that multiple persons of interest are currently in custody on unrelated charges, and ongoing investigations are expected to yield further details. In connection with this case, capital murder warrants have been issued.
