Jon Michael Hopper Arrested for DWI in Hopkins County

Hopkins County, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers arrested Jon Michael Hopper, 51, of Sulphur Springs, after a traffic stop led to his arrest for driving while intoxicated.


Incident Details


According to the arrest report, DPS officers stopped a 2000 Peterbilt operated by Hopper on State Highway 19 at FM 1567 for a defective clearance lamp and identification light. During the stop, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on Hopper’s breath.


Hopper exhibited signs of intoxication, including glassy bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He admitted to consuming alcohol before being stopped. Officers also discovered an open alcohol container inside the vehicle along with five closed 16-ounce beers.


Arrest and Charges


Officers conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), which confirmed signs of intoxication. Hopper was placed under arrest and secured in double-locked handcuffs.


Hopper was transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Possession of an Open Alcohol Container.
