500 Grams Of Meth Located On Hopkins County Traffic Stop
HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas – On the night of March 7, 2025, officers from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals after discovering over 500 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.
At approximately 8:00 PM, Corporal Chaney and Deputy Hollon were patrolling the small community of Birthright when they observed Brian Ramsey in the parking lot of Dollar General. Deputies reported that Ramsey, who was standing outside a tan Chevrolet Tahoe, was acting suspiciously. Ramsey, known from previous investigations, later entered the vehicle as a passenger, which then traveled south on Highway 19.
The vehicle stopped at a closed business in the 9400 block of Highway 19. Ramsey briefly exited the vehicle, walked up to the business, and returned to the Tahoe. Deputies found this behavior unusual due to his prior involvement in investigations and the circumstances of the late-night visit to a closed business.
As the vehicle continued north, deputies noticed a malfunctioning brake light and initiated a traffic stop in the 4600 block of FM 71. The driver, identified as Richard Porter, was also known to law enforcement from prior investigations.
During the search of the vehicle, officers discovered over 500 grams of methamphetamine. Both Porter and Ramsey were immediately arrested and charged with Manufacturing or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group One, Greater than 400 Grams.
Authorities confirmed that the two were transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center for processing. Further details on their bond and court proceedings have not yet been released.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office continues to crack down on drug-related offenses, urging the public to report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
