Sulphur Springs Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault and Firearm Possession

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas – A Sulphur Springs man is facing multiple felony charges following an arrest by local authorities.

On March 12, 2025, officers with the Sulphur Springs Police Department responded to a report of gunfire in the 200 block of Putman Street. Dispatchers received information that a male subject had been shot in the leg.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim and provided medical assistance. Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as Turon Jenard Murray, 51. Investigators learned that Murray had fled the location in a vehicle driven by his girlfriend.

After gathering details, officers tracked down the suspect and conducted a brief search of the area. Authorities located Murray in the 300 block of Beckham Street, where he was taken into custody without incident.

During the arrest, officers discovered that Murray, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm. As a result, he was charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (2nd-degree felony)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (3rd-degree felony)

Murray was transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked on both charges. As of this report, his bond information has not been released.

The Sulphur Springs Police Department urges the public to report any criminal activity and reminds residents that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
