Two Texas DPS Troopers Injured After Being Struck by Pickup on I-45

NAVARRO COUNTY, Texas – Two Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Troopers were hospitalized early Thursday morning after being struck by a pickup truck while assisting a disabled vehicle on Interstate Highway 45.

The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. near the 235-mile marker, according to DPS officials. The troopers were standing outside their patrol unit when a pickup truck collided with their vehicle before striking both officers.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the troopers to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

Authorities temporarily closed the affected section of I-45 while conducting an investigation. Motorists traveling through the area were advised to seek alternate routes as crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released details regarding any potential charges against the driver.

The Texas DPS is reminding drivers to follow the state’s “Move Over, Slow Down” law, which requires motorists to change lanes or reduce speed when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside.

This is a developing story. Further details will be provided as they become available.
