HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas – A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Sulphur Springs man on multiple charges, including drug possession, in Hopkins County.

On March 15, 2025, deputies with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with an expired registration traveling northbound on State Highway 19. The driver, later identified as Seddrick Dejaun Berry, 50, was stopped near County Road 4588.

During the stop, deputies witnessed an item being thrown out of the passenger-side window before the vehicle came to a complete stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a baggie containing a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, in the area where the object was thrown.

Berry was taken into custody and charged with criminal attempt tampering and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail without incident.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office continues to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and reminds the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
