Tragic School Bus Accident in Hood County Leaves Child Dead

HOOD COUNTY, Texas – A tragic accident in Hood County has left a 5-year-old child dead after he was struck by a school bus early Monday morning.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the accident occurred at approximately 6:04 a.m. on March 17, 2025, at the intersection of Pecos River Drive and Brazos River Drive.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Granbury Independent School District school bus was traveling northeast on Pecos River Drive when it stopped to pick up students. As the bus began to pull away, a child reportedly ran up the driver’s side and then attempted to cross in front of the bus. The child was struck by the front right side of the vehicle.

The driver of the school bus, identified as Karla Ann Prange, 66, of Granbury, Texas, was not injured in the accident.

The victim, a 5-year-old male from Granbury, was transported to Lake Granbury Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Eight children were reportedly on the bus at the time of the accident, but none were injured.

The Texas DPS is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident, and no further details have been released at this time.
