SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas – A Sulphur Springs man has been arrested and faces multiple charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a stolen firearm.
According to the Sulphur Springs Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop on March 19, 2025, near East Shannon Road. The stop was initiated due to a moving violation.
During the stop, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed drug paraphernalia in plain view. A bag containing a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, was located inside the vehicle. Additionally, officers found a plastic bag containing four unidentified pills suspected to be MDMA.
Further investigation uncovered a stolen firearm inside the vehicle. After running a check through Sulphur Springs communications, officers confirmed the firearm was reported stolen from Dallas.
The driver, identified as Malique Quavonne Cole, 22, of Dallas, Texas, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG 2 >= 1G < 4G
- Theft of Firearm
- Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
The seized pills were field-tested and confirmed positive for MDMA, weighing approximately 2.1 grams.
Cole was transported to the Hopkins County Jail without incident.
