Two Pickton Men Arrested After Meth Found During Traffic Stop in Sulphur Springs

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Two Pickton men were arrested early Saturday morning in connection with a traffic stop that led authorities to discover methamphetamine inside their vehicle.

According to reports from the Sulphur Springs Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop on March 23, 2025, at approximately 12:17 a.m. on League Street South due to a moving violation. The vehicle involved, a green Honda Accord, was occupied by James Arthur Baxley, 60, and Billy Lenard Baxley, 56, both residents of Pickton, Texas.

Upon speaking with the occupants, officers were informed that Lenard Baxley had active warrants. Consent to search the vehicle was granted. During the search, officers located a used syringe, a glass pipe, and two containers holding a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Both men were read their Miranda Rights. Neither party claimed ownership of the substances. Officers took both individuals into custody without incident and transported them to the Hopkins County Jail.

The crystal-like substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 2.43 grams. The suspects face multiple charges related to possession of controlled substances, with James Arthur Baxley also having an additional warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility and a DWI warrant.
