Sulphur Springs Man Arrested for Felony DWI with Child Passenger
Sulphur Springs DWI Arrest Scene

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas – A local man is facing a felony charge after officers say he was driving intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 inside the vehicle.

The incident occurred on the night of March 21, 2025, when Sulphur Springs police stopped a black 1972 Chevrolet sedan for a moving violation in the area of 700 Jefferson Street.

Upon making contact with the driver, later identified as 43-year-old Brandon Tramaine Whitmore of Sulphur Springs, officers observed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and glassy eyes.

According to the affidavit, Whitmore showed signs of impairment and refused to complete field sobriety testing. He was taken into custody after officers determined he had diminished mental and physical abilities due to alcohol use.

Due to a child being present inside the vehicle, the charge was enhanced to a felony count of DWI with a Child Under 15. The child was later released to a parent.

Whitmore refused to provide a breath sample and was taken to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital for a court-ordered blood draw before being booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
