Traffic Stop in Hopkins County Leads to Meth Arrest
Arrested suspect Paul Haught

HOPKINS COUNTY, TX – On the evening of March 28, 2025, Deputy Hollon with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 30 near mile marker 109 for a defective license plate lamp.

The vehicle, a silver Buick SUV, was driven by a female, with 50-year-old Paul Christian Haught of Greenville, Texas, in the passenger seat. According to the report, the female appeared nervous and evasive. She claimed she was dropping off clothing to an unknown person, but was vague when asked to identify them.

Haught allegedly became uncooperative and agitated when asked for identification. HCSO deputies requested consent to search the vehicle, which was denied. A K-9 unit, Cpl. Fisher and his partner Axe, were called to the scene. The K-9 alerted positively to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A probable cause search was conducted. Inside the vehicle, deputies discovered a blue sock containing a clear bag of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. The narcotics weighed approximately 186 grams, including packaging. Haught denied ownership of the drugs, but was taken into custody and booked into the Hopkins County Jail.

Charges Filed:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 >= 4G < 200G (F2)
