65 Roosters Seized, Illegal Operation Exposed

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, at approximately 1:40 PM, the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspected cockfighting activity at a rural residence in the 600 block of Hunt County Road 1006.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a large crowd of nearly 100 individuals, many of whom fled the scene upon seeing law enforcement. At the location, several deceased chickens were found, along with numerous live birds—strong evidence suggesting that active cockfighting was taking place.

The Hunt County Criminal Investigations Division and the SPCA of Texas were immediately called in to assist. After securing a search warrant, officials uncovered multiple fighting pits and confiscated sharp metal gaffs commonly used in illegal cockfighting matches.

A total of 65 live roosters and 10 deceased birds were seized from the premises. As a result of the investigation, 21 individuals were arrested on-site and transported to the Hunt County Jail, where they face charges under Texas Penal Code 42.105 for participating in a cockfighting operation.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office reiterated its commitment to aggressively pursue and prosecute those involved in animal cruelty and organized illegal activities.
