Drug arrest in Hopkins County

HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — A man originally identified as “Gene Walker” turned out to be Wesley Mills, a 64-year-old from Bogata, Texas, who was taken into custody after deputies discovered he was using a false identity and carrying methamphetamine.

On March 29, 2025, around 7:23 PM, Hopkins County deputies responded to a location in the 500 block of Cranford Street to investigate a wanted individual. Deputies encountered a man who claimed to be Gene Walker but lacked proper identification and exhibited suspicious behavior. Deputies quickly identified inconsistencies and noticed that the individual was missing part of his right index finger—a detail that matched the real suspect, Wesley Mills.

Further investigation revealed Mills had multiple outstanding felony warrants, including a parole violation, felony drug possession, and failure to appear. He eventually admitted to using a fake name to avoid arrest.

Upon searching Mills, deputies found a wallet containing dollar bills that tested positive for methamphetamine residue. Once booked at Hopkins County Jail, the total meth seized was approximately 2.818 grams. Mills now faces several charges in multiple counties.

Charges Filed:

  • Violation of Parole – Possession of Controlled Substance PG1 >= 1G < 4G (F3)
  • Bond Forfeiture – Possession of Controlled Substance PG1 < 1G (SJF)
  • Felony Possession Controlled Substance – Hempstead County, Arkansas
  • Possession of Controlled Substance PG1 < 1G (SJF)
  • Failure to Appear (MA)

Mills remains in custody with some bonds denied and others set at $10,000 cash only.
