Hopkins County Man Arrested for Public Intoxication After Being Found Passed Out in Vehicle

On the evening of March 29, 2025, law enforcement officers in Sulphur Springs responded to a report of a man who appeared to be intoxicated inside a parked vehicle at 1760 S. Broadway (Murphy’s USA) in Sulphur Springs.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 42-year-old Roman Vargas of Dike, Texas, unconscious in the driver’s seat of a white 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The vehicle door was open and a strong odor of alcohol was detected emanating from the vehicle. Officers also observed a spilled alcoholic beverage on the floorboard.

After waking Vargas, deputies noted several signs of severe intoxication including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and an inability to maintain balance. Vargas was unable to safely stand or communicate clearly, leading officers to determine that he posed a danger to himself and others.

Vargas was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. He was charged with:

  • Public Intoxication (MC) – Sulphur Springs Police Department

The arrest was made by Corporal C. Robinson and Officer C. Castro of the Sulphur Springs Police Department.

No additional charges or injuries were reported at the time of this incident.
