Man Arrested with Heroin and Xanax in Hopkins County Traffic Stop

Hopkins County, TX – April 1, 2025

A Tennessee man was arrested Sunday evening in Hopkins County after Sulphur Springs Police conducted a traffic stop and discovered suspected heroin and Xanax inside his vehicle.

Authorities identified the suspect as 40-year-old Marcus Cortez Franklin of Memphis, Tennessee. During a roadside interaction, officers observed suspicious behavior and requested Franklin step out of his black Lexus sedan. A subsequent search of his person and vehicle led to the discovery of illegal narcotics.

Officers recovered a glass container filled with multiple white rectangular pills, believed to be Xanax (Alprazolam), as well as a bag of brown powder substance suspected to be heroin. The heroin was later weighed at approximately 160.5 grams in its original packaging.

Franklin was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. He faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 (Heroin) >=4G <200G – Felony 2
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance PG3 >=28G – Felony
  • Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon – Misdemeanor A

No bond information has been released at this time. The case remains under investigation by local authorities.
