COMMERCE, TX – April 7, 2025
The Commerce Police Department has made significant progress in a pair of violent incidents that occurred on March 15, 2025.
At approximately 12:02 PM, officers responded to a report of a drive-by shooting in the 800 block of Culver Street. One individual was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. A suspect vehicle was quickly identified as part of the ongoing investigation.
Later the same afternoon, around 3:40 PM, officers were called to the city park regarding reports of a person with a firearm. Authorities were again able to identify a suspect vehicle, which was different from the one used in the earlier drive-by shooting.
While searching the area, law enforcement located both suspect vehicles parked at the same location on Washington Street. Search warrants were obtained for a nearby residence and both vehicles.
Upon executing the warrants, officers uncovered key evidence linking individuals to both incidents. Arrest warrants were issued for two suspects:
- Jaxyson Grant of Greenville, TX – turned himself in at the Hunt County Jail on March 23, 2025.
- Avean Dejuan Jones of Commerce, TX – remains at large.
Both suspects are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct.
Authorities are urging the public to assist in locating Avean Dejuan Jones. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Hunt County Crime Stoppers at (903) 457-2929 or the Commerce Police Department at (903) 886-1139. Tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
