A routine traffic stop in Hopkins County has led to a significant drug arrest involving multiple controlled substances. According to the Sulphur Springs Police Department, 49-year-old Timothy D. Angel of Spring City, Tennessee, was pulled over in the early morning hours of April 10, 2025, on Interstate 30 EB.
During the stop, the officer observed Angel to be visibly nervous, sweating, and shaking. After Angel gave verbal consent for the vehicle to be searched, officers located a substantial amount of drug paraphernalia and controlled substances within the vehicle.
Among the recovered items were a black digital scale, multiple syringes, a brown wooden box containing a plastic baggie with empty syringes, and bottle caps containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Officers also found a clean plastic bag containing psilocybin mushrooms, a clear plastic bag with suspected MDMA (ecstasy), and another glass syringe containing an unknown black liquid substance.
Additionally, officers located a small bag of gummies, Q-tips, and empty small plastic baggies. Angel was placed under arrest and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. The suspected drugs were weighed and tested: methamphetamine approximately 6.9 grams, ecstasy around 3.3 grams, and psilocybin mushrooms roughly 1.7 grams.
Angel now faces multiple felony drug charges including possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1/1-B, Penalty Group 2, and Penalty Group 3, with substances ranging in weight from under 4 grams to just under 7 grams.
The arrest was conducted without incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
