A man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Texarkana after allegedly attempting to burglarize vehicles in a hotel parking lot near Cowhorn Creek Road, according to Texarkana Police Department officials.
Police say they responded to a 1:30 a.m. call from a witness who observed a man pulling on car door handles in the parking lot. Officers arrived in the area shortly thereafter and located the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Maleek Collier, hiding underneath a truck.
As an officer approached, Collier reportedly rolled out from under the truck and attempted to flee on foot. Several additional officers were already nearby and were able to apprehend him after a short pursuit.
Officers searched the location where Collier had been hiding and discovered an iPad that had reportedly been left in a hotel guest’s vehicle. The item was confirmed to have been stolen.
Collier was taken into custody and transported to the Bi-State Jail. He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Burglary of a Vehicle
- Assault on a Peace Officer
- Evading Arrest
- Possession of Marijuana
As of this writing, no additional details have been released regarding Collier’s bond or court appearance date.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
