A traffic stop in Hopkins County resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old Darien Tre Paul Sims of Cedar Hill, Texas, after law enforcement officers discovered marijuana and a falsification substance allegedly intended to defeat drug tests.
At approximately 10:13 AM, a Sulphur Springs Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop near Houston Street and Church Street. During the stop, the officer reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and initiated a probable cause search.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered drug paraphernalia and a clear bottle with a yellow liquid resembling urine. Sims allegedly admitted to being on parole and claimed he needed the liquid to pass a drug test. During the search of his person, Sims became tense and attempted to prevent officers from continuing their search. He was then placed under arrest.
Officers later discovered that Sims had marijuana concealed in his pants. It was also determined that he was in possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of Water Oak Preschool, a designated drug-free zone. The marijuana was weighed and found to be approximately 1.5 ounces with packaging.
Sims was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on multiple charges including:
- Possession of Marijuana < 2 oz in a Drug-Free Zone
- Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport
- Possession of Drug Test Falsification Device
He remains in custody as of this report.
