HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — A traffic stop for an illegal sun screening device led to the arrest of 25-year-old Angel Abel Aguilar in Hopkins County on April 20, 2025, after deputies discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.
Deputy B. Osornio of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office stopped Aguilar at approximately 1:05 PM near State Highway 19 North at CR 4764. During the interaction, Aguilar appeared visibly nervous. After denying consent to search, K9 Sledge was deployed and alerted on the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed a baggie containing a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, a glass pipe with meth residue, and additional paraphernalia. Aguilar was arrested on the scene and booked into the Hopkins County Jail without incident.
The methamphetamine recovered weighed approximately 1.43 grams including packaging. The vehicle, a 2024 GMC Sierra pickup, was impounded by Benson Brothers towing.
Aguilar now faces one felony drug charge:
- Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 >= 1G < 4G
This arrest is part of continued efforts by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office to disrupt narcotics activity in the region.
