COMMERCE, TX — On the afternoon of May 2, 2025, the Commerce Police Department responded promptly to reports of a disturbance near the intersection of ML King Drive and Elm Street. According to preliminary reports from eyewitnesses, the individual involved was allegedly armed with an axe.
Multiple units, including Commerce Police Chief Corley Weatherford, arrived swiftly at the scene. The suspect was located and peacefully taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported during the encounter, and the scene was quickly secured by law enforcement.
The department has not yet released an official statement regarding the suspect or the nature of the disturbance.
Residents in the area expressed their gratitude for the calm and professional response exhibited by the Commerce Police Department. “It’s reassuring to know our officers are prepared and composed in tense situations,” said one local bystander.
