Garland Woman Arrested on DWI Warrant in Hopkins County

HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — On the evening of May 17, 2025, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers conducted a routine traffic stop on Interstate 30 near mile marker 122 in Hopkins County that led to the arrest of a Garland woman wanted on a felony DWI warrant.

Authorities report that Cristina Suzanne Smith, 37, was driving westbound in a silver Hyundai Elantra when she was observed traveling 84 MPH in a 75 MPH zone. Troopers also noted a defective high-mounted stop lamp on the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, and upon contact, Smith informed troopers that she did not have identification on her and disclosed she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

Troopers confirmed the warrant issued by Kaufman County for Driving While Intoxicated – 3rd or More Offense Smith was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where she was booked and remains in custody as of this report. Her vehicle was released to a relative.

This arrest highlights the importance of active warrant enforcement and routine traffic enforcement as public safety tools.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
