GRAYSON COUNTY, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that occurred just after noon on Sunday along FM-3133, near Jim Cannon Rd.

Authorities report that a 2007 Dodge 3500, driven by 63-year-old Rocky Patterson of Rowlett, attempted to pass another vehicle — a 2017 Toyota Tacoma — in a No-Passing Zone while ascending a hill. During the illegal maneuver, Patterson’s vehicle struck an oncoming 2003 Chevrolet Silverado head-on, causing the truck to ignite in flames. The Dodge also collided with the Toyota Tacoma.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Tommy Moorehead III, 41, of Leonard, TX, was pronounced dead at the scene along with two young passengers, ages 4 and 6.

Patterson was transported to Baylor Scott Hospital in McKinney for treatment. The driver of the Tacoma, Dennis Pringle, 74, of Anna, TX, was treated at the scene.

On May 18, Texas Highway Patrol Troopers secured a warrant and arrested Rocky Patterson on three counts of manslaughter, a second-degree felony. He was booked into the Grayson County Jail and is currently awaiting legal proceedings.

The investigation remains active. Authorities have not released further details at this time.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
