HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — A Houston man is facing serious charges after reportedly fleeing the scene of a crash and later being arrested for driving while intoxicated on Interstate 30 in Hopkins County.
Hermy Tercero-Vasquez, 27, was stopped by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers near the 116mm marker on IH-30 Westbound on May 24, 2025, following a single-vehicle accident. Authorities say Vasquez left the crash site before being located by Cumby Police, who identified signs of intoxication.
According to the affidavit, Tercero-Vasquez admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that day and was traveling back to Houston from Memphis, Arkansas. Although field sobriety tests were not conducted due to Tercero-Vasquez’s uncooperative behavior, he submitted two breath samples which registered blood alcohol concentrations of 0.190 and 0.182 — both more than twice the legal limit in Texas.
Troopers placed Tercero-Vasquez under arrest and transported him to the Hopkins County Jail without further incident. He now faces charges for:
- DWI 2nd
- Hit and Run
- Assault Causes Bodily Injury
The case remains under investigation by the Texas DPS.
