HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — A New Jersey man was taken into custody at a Hopkins County truck stop after law enforcement responded to a disturbance call involving property damage inside the store.


According to the Sulphur Springs Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 7 Star Truck Stop located at 1600 Shannon Road West around 9:27 p.m. on June 15, 2025. Upon arrival, officers were informed by store employees that the suspect had been breaking items near the rear of the store.


Officers located the man, later identified as 34-year-old Jeancarlo Rodriguez-Amaya of West New York, New Jersey, and detained him without incident. During the search, officers discovered a pipe in Rodriguez-Amaya’s pocket which contained a dark burnt residue. He admitted to smoking methamphetamine approximately 30 minutes prior to the encounter.


Rodriguez-Amaya was arrested and transported to the Hopkins County Jail where he was booked on the following charge:


  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (MC)

No bond information was listed at the time of the report. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
