HOPKINS COUNTY, TX — A Sulphur Springs man was taken into custody following a domestic violence investigation early Tuesday morning, June 17, 2025. Authorities have charged 44-year-old Justin Robert Wayne Barrett with Assault Causing Bodily Injury Family Violence, a Class A misdemeanor offense.
According to the affidavit, Sulphur Springs Police responded to a report of an assault at the department lobby. A female victim informed officers that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. While speaking with officers, visible injuries were observed on the victim, including bruising on her chest, a black eye, red blood vessels in the eye, and a red mark on her back shaped like a blunt object.
Additional injuries included bruising to the victim’s left arm. Based on the visible injuries and her statement, officers proceeded to the 1100 block of College Street, where they located and arrested Barrett without incident. He was transported to the Hopkins County Jail, where he was booked on the charge of Assault Causing Bodily Injury – Family Violence.
An emergency protective order was also completed at the request of the victim to prevent further acts of violence.
Barrett has since been released from custody on bond. The investigation is ongoing,
