Sulphur Springs Woman Arrested After Resisting Officers During Warrant Arrest

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX – A Sulphur Springs woman was arrested following an incident involving active warrants and resisting officers attempting to take her into custody on Wednesday, June 19, 2025.


According to an affidavit for probable cause, officers with the Sulphur Springs Police Department responded to a call regarding a possible suicidal subject at a residence on Calvert Street. Upon making contact, officers confirmed that the individual, identified as 39-year-old Shawana Antoinette Wooten, had an active warrant.


Officers informed Wooten that she was under arrest. As they began placing her into custody, Wooten allegedly began tensing her body and resisting their efforts. During the struggle, she fell to the ground and struck an officer in the groin area. Officers were eventually able to restrain her using double-locked handcuffs and placed her in the backseat of a marked patrol unit. She was transported to the Hopkins County Jail without further incident.


Wooten was booked on the following charges:


Wooten has since been released from custody on bond.


The affidavit notes that Wooten was ultimately secured and processed at the jail with no reported injuries to officers. No further incidents were reported at the time of her arrest.
