HOPKINS COUNTY, TX – A Dike man was taken into custody during the early morning hours of June 29, 2025, after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper observed his vehicle swerving erratically on Interstate 30.

According to the arrest report, the trooper noticed two bright white headlights shining directly at him near the 112-mile marker. The lights appeared to be intentionally flashing behind a slower vehicle and weaving onto the shoulder. The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Dalon Kade Irby, exhibited clear signs of intoxication, including glassy eyes and difficulty maintaining balance.

Irby reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol and taking shots of Fireball and Coors Light Beer at a local bar in Sulphur Springs. Six out of six indicators of impairment were observed during a field sobriety test.

After placing Irby under arrest for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated – First Offense, troopers searched his vehicle and located a white powdery substance believed to be narcotics. Irby initially denied ownership of the substance and tried to attribute it to a friend. However, field tests confirmed the substance was methamphetamine.

Irby was transported to the Hopkins County Jail and booked on charges of:

  • DWI – First Offense
  • Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 <1G

Hopkins County authorities remind drivers of the dangers of impaired driving and continue their commitment to keeping roadways safe.
